A speech pathologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats communication disorders,
including speech, language, voice, fluency (stuttering), pragmatics (understanding
and interacting with unspoken societal rules), emotional recognition and regulation,
and swallowing difficulties.

Children and adults with speech, language, or swallowing difficulties due to
developmental delays, neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, Parkinson’s), hearing
impairments, autism, or other medical conditions may benefit from speech therapy.

No, you don’t. A referral may be useful, however, when for claiming through
Medicare, when the speech pathology services are being provided as part of a
multidisciplinary team for the treatment of a chronic condition.

Your first visit will include a discussion of concerns, review medical and developmental history, completion of required paperwork, assessments that are relevant to the discussed concerns, and any other assessments the attending speech pathologist requires for forward planning.

Sessions last 60 minutes, depending on the client’s needs and treatment plan.

Treatment and Therapy

The frequency of therapy depends on the severity of the condition and treatment
goals. Most clients attend 1x 1hr session per week.

Absolutely! In fact, we prefer when parents and caregivers participate so that we can teach them the activities and strategies that should be undertaken between speech therapy sessions. That way, there is speech therapy learning, even when we aren’t there in person.

Progress varies based on the individual, severity of the disorder, and consistency of practice at home. Some clients see improvements in a few months, while others may need longer-term support.

Yes! We provide virtual speech therapy sessions for clients who prefer remote
services.

Insurance and Payment

Yes, we accept most major insurance plans. Please contact us to verify your
coverage. We can provide documentation for reimbursement if your insurance
allows it.
